Furfection Naturals™ Product Information
What types of ingredients are in Furfection Naturals™?
None of our pet products contain soap, which is a known skin irritant for dogs. Our pet shampoos are made using a coconut base and natural ingredients. All ingredients used in our products are human-grade and are rated GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) by the FDA. They are also cruelty-free (not tested on lab animals) and safe for the environment.
Why not just use soap on my pets?
Soap can dry a pet's skin and leave residue in the fur, causing itching, dandruff and shedding. Additionally, topical flea preparations wash off with soap, while non-soap cleansing formulae will not wash them off.
Are any of your pet products hypoallergenic?
Yes, our Gentle “No Tears” Shampoo is hypoallergenic. "Hypoallergenic" refers to a product's mildness and property of being unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. A true hypoallergenic shampoo should be pH-balanced very close to a value of 7 (water is pH neutral and has a value of 7.0) and should contain no color or fragrance. Color and fragrance are frequently the culprits of allergic reactions. While our hypoallergenic shampoo does contain a slight, natural fragrance, it’s still well below the approved levels to be considered truly hypoallergenic.
What is the best pet shampoo for a dog’s sensitive skin or a dog with dry skin?
First, we recommend asking your vet for advice. For sensitive skin that doesn’t flake, start with Gentle “No Tears” Shampoo. For skin that flakes, use Sensitive Skin Shampoo. It contains salicylic acid, which helps exfoliate inside the pores as well as on the surface of the skin; it has microbial properties, and it serves as an anti-inflammatory. Oatmeal is another natural anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant, as well as a natural moisturizer.
Are any of your pet products safe for cats?
Yes. Normally, cats do an excellent job of cleaning themselves and don’t need us to bathe them. We realize there are many cat lovers allergic to their furry felines who must bathe them regularly to keep the dander at a minimum. Our Gentle “No Tears” Shampoo is perfect for this situation.
Why shouldn't I use baby shampoo on my cat?
Cats’ skin is only 2-3 cell layers thick, so it’s extremely sensitive. Fortunately they have fur to protect their skin. Human skin is much thicker – 10-15 cell layers (even babies’ skin), since we don’t have the added protection of fur. If you MUST bathe your cat, make sure the shampoo is fragrance-free.
NEVER USE BABY SHAMPOO ON A CAT! It could be fatal to them.
Is baby shampoo OK to use on my dog?
No, for the same basic reason you shouldn’t use it on your cat. Dogs’ skin is slightly thicker than cats’ at 3-5 cell layers, but that’s still much thinner than human skin. Any type of human shampoo will be at least three times too harsh for your dog’s skin.
Should Furfection Naturals™ products be diluted before using them?
Our pet products are very mild and can be used full strength or diluted, whichever you prefer.
